Building a Fence

The problem with living in the desert is that when you try to have a nice garden or yard, everyone else out there has their own plans for it.  The rabitts eat everything ( I mean, everything- tender plants, the roots and the blooms).   The wonderful thing about dogs is that they keep the rabbits, mice, coyotes and other wild creatures away!  However, they can really mess up a yard and/or garden bed themselves.

Therefore, I needed a fence.  One that would at least slow everybody down a bit.

The least expensive, most durable material I could find was willow.  I purchased the 4x8 panels at about $27.00 each. Had all 10 of them within 2 days using Amazon prime.

I also purchased quick cement, 6 ft round posts and 2x4s.  In five hours, I had 9 posts in the ground, the fence framed and the willow mounted ( for the most part).  I still needed to complete the other side of the cabin ( about 3 more posts), build gates for the front and back of the yard and complete the rails on the top.

A huge wind storm came through and let me know that my willow fence needed more support. So, I decided to apply framing on both sides of the panels-I had the willow sandwiched between 2x4s.
